Former WEC and Bellator fighter found dead at home, possible suicide

The MMA community was stunned with the unfortunate circumstances that led to the death of Bellator fighter Jordan Parsons and the search for the man that caused it, yet there was another loss last week as well.

MMA veteran Blas Avena, aged 32, was found in his apartment in Las Vegas, and police are investigating the matter as a suicide.

His professional career began on the regional circuit in Utah and he eventually fought for World Extreme Cagefighting, where he had a record of 3-3 against the likes of Hiromitsu Miura, Tiki Ghosn, and Dave Terrel. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt then fought for Vegas-based organization Superior Cage Combat and had two fights in Bellator.

His last fight was against Jon Koppenhaver in 2013 that ended in a TKO loss. His final record was 8-7-1, with 6 submission wins, 2 knockout wins, and one no-contest.

No cause of death has been announced as of yet until the investigation has concluded by Las Vegas Police.
