Video: Charles Bennett and Wanderlei Silva in heated exchange ahead of Rizin event

In a sport that is as full of aggression and vitriol as MMA, it makes perfect sense that hatred between certain fighters go on for years to a point where it never fades. In a new video that has surfaced, we see another example of two people that still hate each other after well over a decade of a much-fabled encounter.

For those that don’t remember – or for some of you younger whippersnappers out there – Charles Bennett and former Chute Boxe BJJ coach and former UFC fighter Cristiano Marcello were involved in a backstage altercation at PRIDE Shockwave 2005 where Bennett ended up getting triangle choked to sleep. The fighter formerly known as Krazy Horse claims that Wanderlei Silva woke him up by kicking at his feet, after which Bennett alleges he stood up and punched Silva, knocking him out. Silva & co. have denied this account ever since.

Now that both of them are under the Rizin umbrella, their paths inevitably crossed again in a verbal altercation between the two. PRIDE may be dead, but the contempt between the two seems to have no signs of dissipating.

The incident in question took place in the lobby of the Hotel Springs Makuhari, and as you can see in the video, well…

Sadly, this isn’t the kind of beef we’re likely to see settled. Both fighters are in very different weight classes, and Rizin may not have the inclination to make this fight take place inside their ring. Or would they?

Bennett has a professional record of 29-30-2 (2 draws). He’ll be taking on Silva’s fellow Curitiba native, Minoru Kimura, who is making his professional MMA debut. Kimura is a decorated kickboxer, however, sporting a professional kickboxing record of 21-6-1 (1 draw)

Rizin World Grand Prix 2016 takes place this weekend live from the legendary Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The second round of the heavyweight tournament is slated to take place in late December.
