Despite the years of speculation, the “will they/won’t they” conversations surrounding the possibility of a fight between Ronda Rousey and Cristiane Justino have gained a considerable amount of steam since Cyborg’s move to the UFC earlier this year.
While Rousey has been out of action since last November, Justino has continued to dominate in her performances, and still wants a fight against Rousey to take place in the UFC. Now, Rousey has cleared up a ton of uncertainty regarding her fighting future by returning this December against current champion Amanda Nunes. Seeing as Cyborg is without an opponent for the immediate foreseeable future, she’s once again taking the opportunity to campaign for the fight and was sure to make that as clear as possible while talking to TMZ.
TMZ: “Is Ronda Rousey scared of you? Is that why she will not take the fight with you?”
Cyborg: “Of course. She knows I (would) kill her. Same thing that happen(ed) with Holly Holm and her will be worse with me. She know(s) this. She know(s) this.
She don’t fight for the belt [the] first time. They gave her the belt and she’s fight(ing in the) UFC, the big promotion.”
She then expanded on the point further:
“Same way you talk to guys, you have to have the balls. She speak a lot of things about me… and why she don’t go in (the) octagon with me, fight with me? Man, she don’t have (the balls). She don’t have. She don’t have.
And I know – girls, of course she no have (balls)… but when you speak about someone, you have to go, ‘No, f**k that. I’m gonna fight her. Let’s go in the octagon, make this fight happen.’”
An interesting note here is that after coming over from Invicta, Cyborg had been quite reserved when asked about Rousey, opting instead to focus on talking about her career and desire to engage in superfights in the UFC. Perhaps the fact that Rousey will indeed be returning at the end of the year has prompted Cyborg to make the case for the fight yet again.
All in all, it appears that this has been rekindled yet again and has no signs of dying down. While no one can predict what will happen to Rousey after her next fight for the title, Cyborg is back to making it more than clear that she wants this fight to happen.
