I’m just as confused as you are

I guess there’s a purpose

Alright, so I just want to clear something up. I finally found an actual reason to keep this site. Initially, the only reason I actually did this was for random musings and to keep an archive of the work I’d already done in the past.

And that’s actually been fine. I wrote one thing when I started the site, and let it sleep for about two and a half months. Lots of shit has happened since. I found a new place to write about fighting over at MMAUncensored.com. Stephie and I started a Patreon to keep Level Change going. We’ve changed the direction of the podcast to primarily discuss fighting, but also to have some fun and long detours into entertainment in general.

And that’s nice. It genuinely feels great to write again, but it feels even better having the feeling that I’m part of actually building something here. I feel like I kind of know what I’m doing most of the time. It’s not bad. It’s a small crew, and we’ve got a pretty decent foundation. I have a very real sense of optimism that things will go great, even if I’d like for certain things to be better. But still, brick by brick. Day by day.

So now this is what the tone and tenor of this will be, I suppose. Progress is slow, but it’s there. I figured it would take longer for things to pick back up, and yet work has come at me faster than expected. But it’s rewarding work. Maybe not financially, at least not yet. It doesn’t matter. It’s going to work. Because it fucking has to.

But for now, musings on media.

Ripley on Netflix

As discussed with Stephie on the latest podcast ep, I’m fascinated by how a series based on the same source material for an outstanding film can be so wildly different from that film. It’s a bit confusing due to the differences as some of the plot contrivances hinge on character behavior that is different here. But it’s fun. Really can’t recommend Ripley enough, especially if you don’t mind a slow burn.

Atlanta

Finally at the final season. Rewatched the European season and can’t help but be in awe of what the crew has created. I’d love to chat with some of the writers at some point.

Warrior

Also finally at the finally season, and it remains one of the boldest and most beautiful shows in so many ways. Having a giant group of characters of Asian descent together to make an exceptional show that runs at a lovely pace was an accomplishment. It’s a high watermark for where representation in media can go, much like Reservation Dogs – another series that deserves more love.

PFL

I have literally not watched a single solitary second of PFL MMA this year. Not a one. I’ll be catching up this week to make sense of what is going on, but that place is in a very strange spot. Unbelievable to see them start off the way they did as WSOF, become PFL, blossom into a weird but good product with great fighters, and now fumble the bag the way the appear to be doing. Good luck with that shit.

That’s it for now. Be back soon, promise.
